Dr. Tom Haney is co-founder of the Tallahassee Orthopedic Clinic, which since 1975 has grown from two orthopedic surgeons to 23 physicians with sub-specializations in almost all areas of orthopedic care. The clinic provides care for athletes from Florida State University, Florida A&M University and over 40 high schools.
Dr. Haney came to Florida State for a football scholarship in 1960. After deciding to pursue a medical career as a sophomore, he relinquished his scholarship to devote time to academics and campus leadership. He served as president of his junior and senior classes and was selected to the Omicron Delta Kappa and Gold Key societies.
Dr. Haney later attended Emory University Medical School, obtaining his doctor of medicine and completing the orthopedic surgery program. During this time he also served as a flight surgeon in the U.S. Air Force.
Upon returning to Tallahassee, Dr. Haney served as an FSU team physician from 1975 until 2011. He also served as chairman of the FSU Alumni Association when ground was broken for the creation of the Alumni Center in 2000, and is a current member of Seminole Boosters and the Presidents Club. He has been inducted into the Circle of Gold in recognition of his support of FSU, and into the FSU Athletics Hall of Fame as a recipient of the Moore-Stone Award.
