Jim Thielen is a fourth generation Florida native and the youngest of 11 children. He holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from FSU.
After graduation, Mr. Thielen worked for an accounting firm in Miami and returned to Tallahassee in January 1987. While working his way up to equity partner with a Top 35 CPA firm, he remained an active member of the FSU and Tallahassee community. He currently serves on the FSU Department of Accounting’s Professional Advisory Board and previously served on Seminole Boosters Board of Directors from 1999–2004.
In September 2003, Governor Jeb Bush appointed Mr. Thielen to the nine-member Florida Board of Accountancy, for which he served as chairman in 2007. He also served as chairman of the BOA’s Probable Cause Panel and Budget Task Force.
He has also served numerous leadership roles with the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants, including two terms on their executive committee. In addition, he served a three-year term as a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants Council from Florida.
Mr. Thielen has owned Thielen Plus Tax & Business Consulting, a Tallahassee CPA firm, since October 2002. He lives with his wife, Beth (B.S. ‘03), and their two sons, James and Patrick, in Tallahassee.
