FSU Alumni Association COVID-19 Update

Dear Florida State alumni and friends:

The FSU Alumni Association teams hopes you are safe and comfortable wherever you are. The priority of the FSU Alumni Association continues to be the health of our alumni, students, staff and faculty. As the information and subsequent need for action around covid-19 evolves rapidly, we want you to stay connected and informed. The FSU Alumni Association staff, board of directors and volunteers are dedicated to “flattening the curve” and as such, we have postponed all Spring 2020 events, programs and activities. Our decision to move forward will be informed by what is best for our alumni nationwide and in line with the guidance and policy of Florida State University. Our academic leaders are doing their best to address multiple needs and questions and we will follow their lead.

If you would like to stay informed on how Florida State is managing the COVID-19 response, please visit fsu.edu/coronavirus. As you may know, our students are online for the remainder of the semester. Our outstanding faculty have done an amazing job transitioning to virtual formats; it’s a wonderful demonstration of FSU’s commitment to education and ensuring these students are poised to inspire and lead locally, regionally, nationally and globally. The Alumni Association is ready to welcome our Class of 2020 into the alumni family and you can read an open letter from me here.

In the meantime, as we navigate together, my entire team invites you to stay engaged in the following ways:

  • Support our FSU Student Emergency Relief Fund. Our students are resilient and they need us. These are the change makers, researchers, problem solvers, collaborators, educators, artists, thought leaders and servants of tomorrow. Let’s be there for them today.
  • Follow and share our online content. We are featuring a video series and webinars featuring alumni experts on relevant topics facing us today.
  • Nominate a graduate for Notable Noles and Circle of Gold in April 2020.
  • Sign up to be a ProfessioNole Mentor. Take the time to fill out your full profile and connect with students who would benefit from your guidance.
  • Share your own message to the Class of 2020 on Twitter and tag @FSUAlumni and use #SeminolesForever so we can share your wisdom.
  • Check out VIRES magazine online and be sure your membership is up-to-date to receive the Fall 2020 print issue in August.
  • Know that we’re thankful for you, the FSU Alumni family, staying strong, close and supportive during this time.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to our team by emailing alumni@fsu.edu, or connect with a member of our team directly as they telecommute: alumni.fsu.edu/staff. We are here for you!

Seminoles Forever,

Julie Decker, FSU Alumni Association President and CEO

FSU Alumni Association COVID-19 Update

Florida State University administrators campus-wide have met every day for several weeks to assess and carry out protocols and guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), World Health Organization (WHO), Florida Department of Health and other medical authorities as the novel coronavirus COVID-19 has spread in Florida and across the United States. FSU’s highest priority remains the health and safety of our students, alumni, faculty and staff. Therefore, the following university updates have been announced:

  • Beginning at the end of the academic day on Friday, March 20, and through at least April 4, FSU will move from face-to-face instruction to online instruction and other alternative methods.
  • During the two-week period of online instruction following spring break, the university will remain generally open for normal business operations
  • The university will provide guidance on athletic events and competitions based on coordination with the Atlantic Coast Conference and the NCAA.

Florida State will continue to closely monitor and evaluate information and guidance provided by state and federal agencies as we go forward. For more information on the university’s official updates, please check fsu.edu/coronavirus.
