Jean C. Accius, Ph.D., is a 2002 and 2003 graduate of FSU with a bachelor’s degree in hospitality administration and a master’s degree in aging studies.

He is a recognized thought leader on aging, Medicaid and long-term care issues. As the director of Health and Long-Term Services and Supports for AARP, he leads the policy development process on health and LTSS-related issues that guides AARP’s legislative, regulatory and litigation activities. He also provides advice and counsel to AARP’s senior leadership on policy matters related to health and LTSS.

In addition, Dr. Accius serves as an adjunct professorial lecturer at American University and associate adjunct professor at the University of Maryland University College. He  has authored reports on health and long-term care topics, including the dual eligible population, balancing state long-term care systems, variations in eligibility pathways for Medicaid, older adult nutrition programs and the role of the Older Americans Act in long-term care. He has also directed and monitored multimillion dollar national grant programs designed to support and improve the delivery of LTSS within and across states.

He was elected to the board in June 2013, and plans to share his commitment to the FSU community and its future with fellow alumni. His dedication to alumni and community service includes being a member of the Generations Editorial Advisory Committee for the American Society on Aging and an elected member of the National Academy of Social Insurance.

Dr. Accius resides in Laurel, Maryland, with his wife, Shauniqua, and their two children, Christian and Parker.
