Education B.S. ’69 Title Director Alicia Crew graduated from Florida State University in 1969, where she was a Torchbearer and a dedicated member of the Tarpon Club synchronized swimming team and the women’s swim team. She was also active in the honor societies Omicron Delta Kappa and Mortar Board, and served as an assistant coach for varsity swimming. Her passion for aquatics and leadership on campus set the tone for a lifelong career in service and recreation.She began her professional journey as a graduate assistant before teaching at Tulane University. Alicia returned to FSU in the mid-1970s as aquatics director in Student Affairs and retired as director of Campus Recreation after 37 years of service. During her career, she coached the Tarpon Club for more than 25 years and led the women’s swim team before it became an official varsity sport. She played a key role in planning and constructing the Leach Center, the Intramural Field Complex and the Coburn Wellness Center.Alicia also advised numerous student organizations, worked closely with Student Government and helped found the Women’s Leadership Institute through Women for FSU. Her commitment to community service includes work with the American Red Cross, PACE Center for Girls and Women, Oasis and Refuge House.She is a member of the FSU Athletics Hall of Fame, an emeritus member of the Big Bend Hospice Foundation Board, and currently serves on the board of the FSU Emeriti Alumni Society.
