Altony “Tony” Lee III

Altony "Tony" Lee III, Ed.D. began his collegiate journey at Florida State University in 1998 as a CARE first-generation student. Fueled by a fervent commitment to involvement, he swiftly found his stride in student government, earning accolades as the SGA Volunteer of the Year under the Felix/Fidel administration. By his second year, Lee served as director of minority affairs followed by director of homecoming, concurrently embracing a pivotal work-study role within the Vice President of Student Affairs Office, where he collaborated closely with illustrious figures such as Dr. Dalton and Dr. Winston Scott. These early experiences served as the cornerstone of his trajectory into higher education.

Upon graduation, Lee was inducted into the esteemed Seminole Torchbearers and briefly contributed to the FSU Foundation. His commitment to service persisted beyond graduation, as he continued to be an active member of the Seminole Torchbearers led by Dr. Mary Coburn, eventually ascending to chair its Alumni Board of Directors. His relocation to various cities, from Palm Beach County to Tampa and Naples, didn't alter his dedication, as evidenced by his leadership roles in the local Seminole Club serving as president in Tampa and Naples. Lee’s commitment is further underscored by his consistent support of the annual fund, reflecting his enduring devotion to his alma mater.

In his professional capacity, Lee serves as associate vice chancellor of public affairs for the State University System of Florida and the Board of Governors. He has been tasked with securing substantial funding ($4.9B) and advocating legislative measures bolstering the educational endeavors of Florida's 12 universities and over 430,000 students. He plays a pivotal role in upholding the state's preeminent status: #1 in higher education in the nation. His prior tenure as director of university relations at Florida Gulf Coast University underscores his extensive experience in fostering partnerships and community engagement, complemented by his role as an adjunct professor and his national recognition as Faculty Advisor of the Year by Kappa Alpha Order.

Beyond academia, Lee is a graduate of various prestigious leadership programs and has contributed to community initiatives, including serving as chair of the outreach committee for the City of Bonita Springs and the tree advisory committee. His remarkable contributions have garnered numerous accolades, including recognition by Gulfshore Business 40 under 40 and the Bonita Springs Pat Lord Service Award, affirming his status as a respected community leader.

Lee believes in lifelong learning, as he has earned in a bachelor's degree in political science from FSU, followed by a master's degree in global and strategic communications from Florida International University and a doctorate in education from the University of Miami. He is an avid college sports fan and enjoys golfing, boating and attending arts and culture events with his wife LaToya Lee.
