Gene Walden earned his degree in criminology from Florida State University’s College of Criminology and Criminal Justice in 1968, where he was a member of Theta Chi fraternity.
In 1986, Walden co-founded McCurdy-Walden Inc., a full-service roofing contractor serving commercial properties in North Florida and South Georgia. Six years later, his sons joined the company, and under their leadership, McCurdy-Walden doubled its annual income the following year. Walden became the sole owner in 2000 and, in 2008, turned over day-to-day operations to them. He officially retired in 2012.
A dedicated Seminole, Walden currently serves as vice chair and treasurer of the Emeriti Alumni Society at FSU. He is a past chair of the FSU Alumni Association National Board of Directors, previously served as interim president of the Alumni Association and has been a member of the FSU Foundation Board of Trustees Executive Committee, the Seminole Boosters Board of Directors and a founding member of the Seminole Club of Clay County. He received the FSU Alumni Association’s Circle of Gold Award in 2001 and was appointed to the Athletic Committee by President T.K. Wetherell.
Walden and his wife, Ginny, reside in St. Augustine, Florida. They have two sons, Mark and Jonathan, and are proud grandparents to two recent FSU graduates: Cade (B.S. ’22) and Brady (B.S. ’23).
