Jeff Kottkamp graduated from Florida State University in 1984 with a bachelor’s degree in political science.

He currently serves as executive vice president and general counsel for Florida TaxWatch and president of Jeff Kottkamp, P.A. Kottkamp is an AV preeminent-rated attorney and has been licensed to practice law for over 35 years.

In 2000, he was elected to the Florida House of Representatives where he served for three terms. While in the House, he served as chairman of the Judiciary Committee, chairman of the Judicial Appropriations Committee, chairman of the Government Operations Committee, vice chairman of rules and was deputy majority whip.

In November of 2006, Kottkamp was elected the 17th lieutenant governor of Florida. As lieutenant governor, he oversaw the Governor’s Office of Drug Control, the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, the Office of Adoption and Child Protection, and the Governor’s Office of Film and Entertainment. Governor Kottkamp also served as chairman of Florida's Children & Youth Cabinet, chairman of Space Florida Board of Directors, and chairman of the Florida Sports Foundation. On June 18, 2008, he served as acting governor of the State of Florida.

Kottkamp has served as an adjunct professor at FSU College of Law, teaching Ethics and Professional Responsibility Law. He was named to the FSU Circle of Gold in 2007. His firm achieved the Seminole 100 designation in 2020, 2021 and 2022. He is past president of the Seminole Club of Lee County.

Kottkamp and his wife Cyndie have been married for 26 years. They have one son, Jackson, who attends Florida State University.
