Education B.S. ’72 Title Secretary Michele McCauley Adair graduated from Florida State University in 1972 and spent more than 30 years living and working in the Washington, D.C., metro area as a systems engineer. She continues to work part-time in the field and remains deeply connected to Florida State.During her time in D.C., Adair became an active supporter of FSU, serving as president of the Seminole Club of Greater Washington, D.C., a board member and secretary of the FSU Alumni Association National Board of Directors. Her involvement began somewhat by chance: shortly after relocating to D.C. in 1983 for a career opportunity, she received a newsletter from the FSU Alumni Association of Greater Washington, D.C.—a fortunate reminder to always keep one’s alumni address current. The newsletter mentioned a game-watching party for the FSU vs. UF game. Adair decided to attend, and it turned out to be one of the most meaningful decisions of her life. She reconnected with fellow alumni, many of whom had attended during her time at FSU, and immediately felt a renewed bond with the university. (And yes—FSU won that game!)A second newsletter soon arrived, inviting alumni to a club board meeting and requesting volunteers. Adair showed up to learn more, not realizing that simply attending meant she’d essentially joined the board. At the time, the club was small, with meetings held at the club president’s home and watch parties often organized last-minute, depending on televised game announcements. Those early experiences—with the encouragement of longtime alumni champion Betty Lou Joanos and the Alumni Association—helped shape the club’s future focus on both athletics and academics, and its role as an ambassador for FSU in the nation’s capital. After returning to Tallahassee in 2015, Michele joined the Extra Point Club, serving on multiple committees and continuing her leadership as both a member and officer of the board. She has also remained active with the Alumni Association, particularly in the evaluation process for the Alumni Ambassador Scholarship, helping select finalists who will carry forward the spirit and excellence of Florida State University.
