Women for FSU

Since the creation of the Florida State College for Women in 1905, women have played a vital role in shaping the history, traditions and success of the university—and they continue to do so today. In 2004 and 2005, an ad hoc committee and focus groups explored new ways to promote women’s engagement with FSU. Building on that momentum, the inaugural Women and Philanthropy Seminar was held in 2005, sparking meaningful conversations about the unique impact of women as leaders, advocates and philanthropists.

In 2008, a steering committee, led by former First Lady Virginia Wetherell, formally launched Women for Florida State University, establishing a lasting network dedicated to engaging alumnae, fostering community and celebrating women who make a difference. Today, Women for FSU represents a dynamic force among the university’s 260,000 living alumnae worldwide and welcomes all alumni and friends of the university.
